IV. World Wide Web

World Wide Web

This is the system that enables you to access hypertext documents and other files over the internet. This was produced by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The World Wide Web has three versions: the Web 1.0; Web 2.0; and Web 3.0.

  • Web 1.0
This is also known as the Read-only Web because this web site is designed only for the users to read. In this web site, the users are not allowed to copy, edit or even leave a comment.

  • Web 2.0
This is a lot better than the Web 1.0 because this web site is  the Read and Write Web which allows users to not just read but also to copy, edit and leave a comment. this version of the World Wide Web is the one present in today's generation.

  • Web 3.0
This is the Semantic Executing Web. Its functions will be just like the Web 2.0 but it will have less load time which will be very helpful to everyone.

V. Social Media

Social Media

ICT produced another high impact application, Web 2.0 which is used in socializing and communicating. In today's generation, social media is very useful especially for people who wants to communicate to their loved ones away from them. Through social media, people could also start a business at home. In this way, it would be easier for the businessmen to communicate with their clients, send pictures of their products and make their products popular by promoting it in the social media sites.

VI. Research and Information Seeking

Research and Information Seeking is one of the ideal applications laid down for ICT and the World Wide Web.

Five Information Sources Over the Internet

  • Web Search Engines
These are software systems that are designed to search for information in the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs). The information may be a mix of we pages, images and other types of files.

  • Research Indexing Sites
These are web sites dedicated to compile and index researches done by academic researchers, social scientists and so on. And these also collect researches and files that are needed.

  • Massive Online Open Course (MOOC)
These are websites dedicated to inform and teach users focused on different areas. The delivery of information is similar to a classroom lecture setup wherein lectures and assignments are delivered and submitted respectively online. In short, these are tutorial sites and these can also be used to find an open course that is fitted to your skills. These sites also have online enrollments.

  • Employment Web Sites
These are websites that enable companies to post job vacancies and also accommodate job seekers by providing a resume submission facility.
Employment Web Sites are also advantageous for those people who are seeking jobs fitted to their skills and this is also the bet way for the companies to find an employee who is willing to do the job and also has the skills needed for the position.

  • Electronic Commerce (E-commerce)
This is a technology that uses electronic means to trade products and currencies. It also includes any technology that introduces bases in business, management and customer convenience.
This is commonly used to advertise products to be known more by people who are not yet familiar about the certain products.
